About

The Rude Mechanicals Band are:

Wes Finch - Guitars and Vocals

Ben Haines - Percussion

Jools Street - Violin

Katrin Gilbert - Viola

John Parker - Double Bass

Initially, Wes wrote a batch of songs in response to a competition being run by The Royal Shakespeare Company in Stratford upon Avon. The songs weren’t in fact ever entered into the competition but after being picked up via BBC Introducing in 2016, Wes, Ben and Jools were asked to play them at The RSC's Other Place Theatre in Stratford as part of the BBC Radio 3 programme, In Tune, celebrating 400 years of Shakespeare.

Since then the group has grown to include Katrin and John and continues to expand its repertoire; always inspired by literature, most recently William Shakespeare, John Masefield & Philip Larkin. The band uses existing words and sets them to newly written folk and classical music.

The group are currently developing links with local actors with an aim to bring an added dimension of immersive theatre into their live shows.

We aim to engage our audience by bringing poetry, classical literature, literary greats and music together making them all more accessible to a wide audience and encouraging people of all ages to discover and enjoy!
